Our 46th AGM was held again this year at Backsberg Wine Farm and we met at the Engen 1 Stop on the N1 for the drive. Our road captain, Stuart Anderson did not disappoint with his route, and so after a quick cup of coffee we headed off in convoy. While the route had been planned meticulously, our sweeper for the day, Robert Thorp, reported that there was a large contingent of cyclists participating in a formal ride on part of the route. This slowed us down a bit, which gave us the time to really enjoy the scenery on this beautiful summers day.
The AGM was run efficiently as always with outgoing president Ken Wentzel summarising the events of 2017 and thanking the committee for their support. He noted that he had achieved all of his goals, particularly the substantial increase in the number of members and the Clubs healthy improvement in cash reserves. Ken has been an amazing president and is a “hard act to follow”.
Robert Thorp, our treasurer was pleased to announce that besides the increase in our cash reserves, significantly through sponsorship and membership fees, the cash management with regard to events had also improved.
Colin Plit, the editor of the magazine commented that the magazine is making a small profit and encouraged all members to contribute articles and to advertise.
The lunch was once again fabulous, and we were all surprised at how well priced the wine was. Many members used the opportunity to replenish their stocks before they headed home.
Jane Plit was elected president of the Club and 2 additional members joined the committee. We welcome Birgit Lamm and Glen Esterhuizen.
