Covid 19- who would ever have anticipated this?                                       Jane Plit

2020 is certainly a year that will go down in our memories as one where we truly had to face the unexpected.

Along with many of you, I'm sure, when we first became aware of the crisis in China, I never anticipated that the entire world would be put on hold, and that we would still be looking into an uncertain future three months on from when it dented my radar.

When the Melbourne F1 race was being debated, along with many of you, my initial response was that they would never cancel, the financial implications would be huge.

And then.... It was cancelled! And not only that one, but many events were cancelled way into the year's racing calendar.

We as a club have had to cancel or postpone several events, from our Show and Shine, to the awards dinner, and our much anticipated Franschhoek Motor Museum event. That doesn't include racing days at the track, or our social runs, with our mid-year over-nighter. We did a fund-raising drive for Where Rainbows Meet, and I’d like to ask those of you who are able to, to continue to keep this cause in your thoughts. I am sure you are all helping out causes close to your hearts, but if you have a little to spare, WRM makes a little go a very long way. As always, if you do donate, put WRM as a reference, and we will make sure it gets to them.

The good news is that we will have our own track day at Killarney in early September, so watch out for this, and we will keep you posted.

We may need to adjust how we manage our events, to maintain social distancing, but we will figure it out.

Keep an eye out for our emails, which will up-date you on the work the committee is still doing, so that when we are able to get together again, we are as well organised as possible. The committee meets regularly online via Zoom to ensure that we are prepared for when we can get together again.

I'm missing the racing and seeing all of you. My hope is that you and your families are keeping well, and that the economic fall-out of this cataclysmic time is something we all manage to navigate and survive.
